Police in Anuradhapura are searching for the driver and conductor of a private bus who allegedly assaulted the driver and conductor of a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus on 13 October.
According to police, the incident took place in the evening near the Pothanegama Vijayarama Temple in the Anuradhapura Police Division. Police said it followed a dispute between the two crews along the route.
The two buses had left the Anuradhapura Old Bus Stand at the same time. The SLTB bus was heading towards Ilandagahawewa and the private bus towards Kala Oya.
A video of the altercation has circulated on social media. Police have taken the private bus into custody, and its driver and conductor have reportedly fled.
Anuradhapura Headquarters Police are continuing investigations to arrest the suspects. Police also warned that strict legal action will be taken against people whose unlawful conduct endangers pedestrians and other road users or inconveniences the public.
