Sri Lanka’s total exports passed US$9 billion in the first half of 2026, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said at the 26th Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit (SLEIS) on 13 October.
Speaking at a session on “Nation Building in the Digital Age”, she said the Government aims to expand the digital economy to US$15 billion by 2030, raise digital exports to US$5 billion and build a digital workforce of 200,000 professionals.
The Prime Minister said about Rs. 30 billion has been committed to basic digital transformation work through the framework set up under the Ministry of Digital Economy.
She said GovPay, the Government payment platform, has processed more than Rs. 6 billion in payments, with over 300 organisations connected.
For readers, the figures point to plans for more online public services and for jobs in technology, which the Government says it wants to pair with training.
Amarasuriya called for closer links between schools, universities and industry, with practical training and flexible qualifications such as micro-credentials. In a later panel discussion she said technology in education should not widen existing inequalities.
