The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah has advised Sri Lankans planning to travel for Umrah to expect possible disruptions to flights to and from Saudi Arabia.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, the Consulate urged prospective pilgrims to take care with their travel plans and to stay in close contact with their Umrah group representatives or travel agents. It also advised them to make contingency arrangements for emergencies.
The notice follows missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, including strikes on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Operations at the airport have been suspended until 17 October.
SriLankan Airlines has suspended its flights to Riyadh and services between Colombo and Dammam until 18 October, citing security concerns in the region.
Pilgrims with bookings in the coming days should check their itineraries with their travel agents.
